I don’t know what’s happening here I’ve checked all the parts pawls, ring and all the other parts and there all in good condition, it’s greased up appropriately and all tighten properly too, I have no clue what’s happening, I have a ride soon so I need a solution before my replacement hub parts come, it’s a mafia 29inch bomma so technically a bmx. It’s so unreliable because there’s so much torque going to the back wheel 😂

Anyone got a clue what’s happening here?

is it just the noise or are you losing forward traction with sudden pedal slip… as in the pedals go into freespin…?

    Edit:

oh wait yeah I saw the first part of the vid now where it’s clear the pedals are slipping.

Did you pull the pawls out and check whatever form of spring they have to push them out? If those have broken, that will be it.

Also, did you check the teeth / ratchets in the hub (if it’s the type of hub that has a toothed hub interior) because if those have rounded off, same thing.

Did you use a really thick grease that can overpower the pawl springs springiness and stop them clicking out?

Only things I can thing of and I suspect you’ve check those already.

Sounds like the bearings are shot in the hub and the pawls aren’t grabbing. I would bet the thing is seen lots of water and not been serviced in a long time. Likely a broken ring type pawl spring from rusting out. When you get up to speed the pawls throw themselves out and grab again, but from a stand still they’ll try to slip.

  3. Take it apart and spin the bearings sounds like the driver bearings are bad if you said the claws and everything else are good.

  4. I would think the teeth in the rear hub are striped by the noises it’s making and the slipping of the cranks you mite have to get a new rear wheel
