  1. It might just be gummed up.
    With shifters my attempt to save them starts with flushing with a powerful spray degreaser like Clean Streak. Really soak it. Then I flush with a spray lube like One Step. Again really soak it. You’re going to make a mess so put some towels down. Do a bunch of clicks to get it worked in. Clean off the excess. Then see if it works. If not it’s time for a new one.

    I’ve opened up and fixed a 7900 shifter before with a similar problem. there was a spring that came loose. or got deformed. I remember having to cut it, reshape it, and put it back in place, and it worked just fine. I spent a few hours on it. not sure if the mechanic is the same on the 11s stuff, or if you can even open those up. assuming it’s a claris or 105, might be better to just get a new one.

    First, replace your shift cable, it’s very possible it’s starting to fray, and that’s the root cause. Then flush with HOT water, then blow out/dry, then just a few drops of oil, cycle shifter, and blow out excess. Hopefully it just needs a cable or cleaning
