I mean, you know us here at xbiking. The vision changes wildly from person to person. As for me personally, suspension forks aren’t my thing. Rigid fork, road 3x crankset with wide range cassette and long cage rear derailleur. Slick tires. Make it into an aggressive city cruiser with gears for everything from racing traffic to climbing mountains.

  2. – Wheelies

    – Small to medium sized jumps

    – No handed

    – Skids

    – Stoppies

  3. I’d change the saddle and chain. Brakes and wheels if it’s time. Take it on some old trails and have some fun.

shorter stem and raise up the bars a bit, maybe some bars with sweep, so you are in a more upright position and less weight and stress on your hands.

i’d say get a rigid fork, but that fork is probably pretty rigid by now, so there’s that.

Fenders and a basket maybe? depending on what you wanna do with it.

  5. Aside from giving everything some love, I’d go rigid fork, and more comfortable handle bars. Straight flat bars like that are brutal.

  6. Lots of great input in the thread already but you should also just search Trek 7000 in this sub. This exact model pops up often and there are a lot of builds to look at

I would do a coulpa laps around the block and then take a picture of it and ask r/xbiking to be jelly cause I have a perfect bike to do whatever I want. just me.

I would get an adjustable stem and upright handlebars. Then get some Maxxis Holy Rollers.

Quill to threadless adapter, riser stem, Velo Orange Seine bars, Ergon grips, 2.1” DTH tires, and a better saddle.

  10. -Find some cool saddle with a mint accent or plain black.
-Service the forks, remove red sticker, find/make mint sticker or go without.
-Service the hubs, remove dork disc and inspect rims for wear. Inspect brake pads.
    -Check tires for dry rot.
    -Test ride
-And then, if you were really me, find an old rack, round up some pannier bags and throw it up on the Internet as a touring bike, looking to make a reasonable profit so it’s worth your time and effort but not crazy expensive and get someone off down the trail on tour.

  11. Ride the piss out of it? Take it out to Mission Valley and ride it down the hidden stairs? Ride to OB for a sub at Pomas? Put a rack on the back for gorcery panniers and sel me car?

First; Removing that insulting Huffy seat and trash it. Huffy makes shit Walmart bikes. This IS a Trek.

New chain, cassette. New cables and housing. New tires and tubes. Definitely change the stem to something closer to your reach. And a nice wide handle bar. Oh, take them godly old pedals off too!

Now you got a bike that goes for $$$ on ebay. I believe this model was American Made and very sought after. They ride nice on a trail or on the street. Looks like a 70 degree head tube angle, but check out that low 70s seat tube angle. Damn, you’ll glide on a ride with a nice pair of fresh tires….
