You can cycle from Dulwich in south London to Crystal Palace entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.

The route is 4.2km long (2.6 miles) and makes use of Dulwich Park and the protected cycle lanes on Hunt’s Slip Road.

  1. I feel like it is worth mentioning the various different ways to get up the hill! You have the option of continuing up college road/fountain drive to reach the dutch-style roundabout at the top of the hill, however the (half protected) cycle lane (uphill only) does lack surface quality, and there is slightly more traffic after you pass Kingswood Drive, hopefully the council can improve this in the future. Love the video nonetheless! ❤

  2. Another great video! My favourite route is straight up College Road – there's a cycle lane for most of it and you get to cycle through the trees at the edge of the old Great North Wood. Keep up the good work!

  3. I now have a diagnosis for my spine – spinal stenosis so I have to watch what I do. Kerbs help for dismounting. So Richmond park is a problem. And I can't do hills. So this video is useful in that Dulwich is fine and crystal palace is not X

  4. Hello mate great video as always but i really dont understand your route out of Dulwich park,i cycle weekly from Brixton to Crystal palace and you have really gone around the houses for no reason
Come out of Dulwich park by the gallery left onto college rd straight up through toll road all the way to the top no traffic ever quite roads and cycle lane at top there is no wsy to avoid the gradient going up to Palace..

  5. I did this route 4x a week for over a year, I'd never go this way, always left out Dulwich Park, straight up through the Farage toll gate, College Rd/Fountain Drive, and then into the park at Old Cople Lane or just right along the main A road bit. Still sucks even with a battery. Elevation from the Norwood Park side up Central Hill is less steep and from Sydenham too but horrible traffic,. Many good routes down!

  6. Another great video. I don't live in London but in Sheffield where there are hills in all directions, you would definitely get an e-bike. Thanks for sharing your video.

  7. You're right, it's a very steep hill up to Crystal Palace! It's good to see the improvements for cycling in the Dulwich area that have been built over the years since I grew up there.

  8. Great video!! very interesting route, thanks for making it! Will have to try this out… Thankfully I've only made this journey downhill so far, typically just Fountain Dr~College Rd all the way. I'm convinced Norwood Pk, Bloomhall Rd and Hawke Rd is the easiest gradient up to Crystal Palace although that is coming from the other side 🚴

  9. I’ve gone through Dulwich Park up to Crystal Palace many a time, but I’ve certainly never done it like that! There are lots of different routes you can take which I see some others have pointed out too. Whilst this isn’t the worst I have to say it’s definitely a bit random and not what I’d recommend! My main surprise was the way you went through the park – veer right when you get in and turn left out the gate so you’re then just going up college road. Don’t need to faff about with all that shared pavement nonsense!

  10. That aerial height fact was really interesting. First to eighth shows how rapidly London has developed. Is it worth going to see it?

  11. Congratulations are in order Jon …. You managed to make Saarf Lundun look passably attractive.

Dunno if it helps anyone plan routes, but a glance at the old London Tram Maps covering south of the river will point you at less hilly routes … Dog Kennel Hill (East Dulwich) excepted.

  12. Great vid. As aside, but shame that Bromley and Croydon together refusing to allow e-bike hire means you aren't allowed to take a Lime or Forest bike up to Crystal Palace, but areas both west and east are fine.
Bromley have their priorities totally wrong.
