I bought this Cinelli x Mash Bolt in very good condition and started riding it 2 weeks ago.

It is my second fixed gear. The other one is used as a commuter with a 46×18 ratio. While it is not the best for skid patches, it is pleasant to ride around Brussels (kind of hilly town).

The Cinelli has a bit of a heavier ratio – 49×16. However I really think that I cycle enough to handle it since also do gravel.

Since I've had it I started to experience a right knee pain. Not when I'm on my rides but when I'm chilling and/or walking.

Could this be related to the ratio ? I do not skid much and even added a brake.

To add : I feel confortable on the bike. My gravel bike is also a Cinelli with the same frame size (54).

  1. that’s fixed gear for you man. seriously tho you should consider lowering your ratio a bit you’re better off spinning than mashing

Too big of a ratio jump you should probably go to 49×18 or 17 but since you already hurt your knee you should fall back to a less strenuous ratio for now.

I ride 48×17 in the Mons area, which is a bit more hilly than the areas of Bruxelles im familiar with and it’s not too rough on the knees.

other, than the obligatory lower ratio comment, check your bike fit, i had knee pain when i over extended my legs on longer rides, i lowered the seat by half centimeter, and it was gone (your milage may vary)
