    BIKEPACKING THE FRENCH COAST [CHERBOURG – CALAIS]



    In this weeks bikepacking adventure i thought we would take a trip down memory lane and that lane is the coast of france, from cherbourg to calais, 370 miles of coastal views stunning beaches. Hope you enjoy the adventure.

      Cracking film. Anyone else clock the Phare de Gatteville lighthouse (3:36) as a filming location for the ace French 80s film Diva? Where Gorodich and Alba take Jules after he is nearly killed by Bad Guys.

      Josh, you found some"stereotypically French food" in the shape of croissants and baguettes but answer me this: did you come across a Ginster's?

      Even after the boneheadedness of Brexit, British cyclists are thankfully still free to ride in the EU. Josh is dead right about how France has surged ahead in cycling infrastructure compared to the UK. So much for British exceptionality. I say that with a heavy heart.

      Nice video and route. I am planning a bikepacking trip next year along the Belgian/French coast to Spain. Should be fun, will start it off by visiting relatives in Namur Belgium. This year I am planning to ride across Canada, should be epic.

      I can't believe I've just planned nearly the exact same route ,As I'm based on the isle of Wight .I would also like to pop over further up the east coast of England & head up to The Netherlands one day .

      Thanks for another great trip with some lovely photography as usual.
      What a nice story about the elderly gent you rode with in southern France. To live into your 90s is one thing, but to still be doing what you love is better still. I hope he's still alive and pedalling, but if not, I'm sure he'll be looking down and smiling at your adventures. Chapeau to that dear chap! 👍

      Enjoyed this: inspiring me to do something very similar (as I live in Sussex can make a nice loop).

      Any one have any advice on French Rights-of-way and what we’re permitted to access on bicycle? Is it structured like Englands Foot/Bridle/Byway system or basically Right to Roam or somewhere in the middle?

      Something I've been wanting to do for so long this trip, if I can work out the logistics of getting from the north down to the south with my bike and back this trip is on my bucket list.
