  1. Yes, google steerer tube ring of death.
A improperly tightened (sometimes even a properly) headset usually causes this, where the compression plug damages the carbon.
I would probably replace this fork.

Yes it is. You need to change your fork before it snaps at the ring point and you are eating asphalt

It’s called the ring of death. Well documented issue with carbon steerer tubes. I can’t judge whether yours is bad enough or what could have caused it, but you’ll find plenty of info online with the correct term

  4. This is the “ring of death”. It is doubtful that there is no play. This does not look catastrophic (yet), but you should try to get a new fork, or have a carbon repair shop fix it.

As the prophet Raoul Leuscher might say ‘Sub-optimal’ or ‘not ideal’ or ‘pretty ordinary’…

I recommend his videos on YouTube. His dry Australian manner (& knowledge) is to be admired!

  6. I wouldn’t trust it myself.

Carbon fibre doesn’t normally react well when it’s over compressed especially if it’s compressed to the point of permanent marking. Before consigning it to the bin it’s worth finding someone who knows about carbon because there is a chance that it could be salvaged but only someone with experience in carbon can tell by examining it nobody can tell from a photo.

I had the same issue with my Bianchi. I couldn’t find an identical replacement so went for a third party fork which fitted. Did the job nicely 👌🏻
