You didn't pass through the Netherlands (that's the country where I live). When I heard you talk about finding public toilets I thought of how difficult it is here to find those. They might be in a library, but then you can only use it when the library is open, and you have to ask for the key of the door. Or it's in a train or bus station and you'll have to put a coin (50 cts) in the door to open it. I'm used to go into a cafΓ© or restaurant and ask if I can use the toilet. Sometimes it's OK just like that, but often they say you'll have to order (like a drink) first.
