Recently acquired cross country bike. The front shock completely depresses when I sit on the bike. What kind of maintenance does it need and is this possible? Does it need more oil? Are the seals ruined?

I don't see any adjustments on the shock other than the electronic lockout which doesn't work (probably needs a new battery).

The bike has been sitting unused for about 10 years. I think it's around 2008 or older. It's a Cannondale Jekyl.

Is this something a bike shop could fix? I don't want to spend $1000 on a new fork.

  1. Lefty rebuilds are notoriously difficult. Look up Mendon Cyclesmith as they are one of the go-tos for servicing leftys: [https://www.mendoncyclesmith.com/](https://www.mendoncyclesmith.com/)

And no, a typical bike shop doesn’t have the know-how to handle these.

These old generation Lefty forks are generally not repairable. Cannondale hasn’t made parts for them in about 6-7 years. Theoretically if you find some parts for them you can rebuild it, but realistically it would be immensely faster and cheaper to buy adapter rings for the head tube and put a standard, modern fork on it.
