Do thieves often go for vintage bikes like this?
Old unused bikes with downtube shifters and non collectible components like these are often sold really cheap as they don’t have collecters value and are difficult to use compared to bikes with modern components. When its worth about €100 and a full service costs more than that sometimes its better to get some money out of it than taking up space in the garage
You can mail it over to Chicago if you don’t want it.
It is a neat bike for sure but not worth much inherently. I wouldn’t worry too much about it and be pleased getting a good deal on it.
