Hello again everyone!

I unfortunately could not secure the Felt AR I posted from a couple of weeks ago, so I’ve been looking again

My sisters boyfriend and his family is getting rid of a couple of bikes and mentioned he was selling their 54CM emonda (matte grey bike in the front).

After looking through some pictures, I assumed this was a 2018 SL5 Emonda but I am not sure to be honest just given the straight bars are throwing me off. He is asking for $1k so I am not sure if this a good deal and what I should counter with to make it fair (since it’s basically family I’m negotiating with haha)

Anyway, I know I would want drop bars, a different seat and of course new pedals so not sure if the bike is even worth it at that point.

Would appreciate any input you may have. I’m kind of leaning to just purchasing a brand new bike with a $2k budget instead but wanted to hear your thoughts given this is basically half the price.

Thank you all for your help!

  1. Absolutely not. Steerer tube extension and hugely raised bars are a huge red flag. The carbon steerer tube on the bike wasn’t designed for either.
Also you’ll be buying drop bars and shifters plus recabling the bike to return it to a road bike. That’s not going to be cheap.

  2. Spaghetti-Bender on

Hell no. Even if it was still in its original form with drop bars, it’s a really bad deal.
