  2. Truthfully there is no way they can be sure that these protocols are the best since such a small percentage of the possibilities have been tested. I have had heart disease for many years, and based on my anecdotal experience I believe having a much higher percentage at a higher heart rate is probably much better for clearing arteries, which is a different goal that likely has some correlation. At least 50% of the time with heart rate from 70-85% of max heart rate seems like a good estimate, at least for me. Zone 2 is basically worthless for clearing arteries is my guess, though building up the heart rate gradually is important for safety. Hiit is too high risk for a heart attack in my case I believe.
