For an 11-34 cassette, it is the first one on, because the back of the cassette is slightly concave in comparison to the 11-32 and lower.
Look at the cassette edge-on and see which gears aren’t evenly spaced. If they are all evenly spaced, it’s meant to go between the freehub and gear 1, which may or may not be necessary.
It goes on the Hub before you put on the cassette. It’s a spacer to fit 10 gear cassettes on a 11-12 gear Hub. It will fit perfectly, there’s no way to screw it up because of the grooves
That’s one of my biggest fears
