I don't know much about bikes but I want to get into it, so let me know if you'd recommend this please. Id be riding it both on streets and trails. Mountain bike is what I want.

No, it is way too old. Get a newer hardtail, like the one Walmart makes, if this is your budget.

Hard to say from 1 pic, but might just work if it’s been constantly ridden, maintained, and not just sitting somewhere. It appears to have a number of upgrades like a 1x drivetrain and upgraded wheels. If everything is in working order, I think it would still smoke any Walmart bike.
