i posted the numbers in the last post… just dont wanna go back n find it.

anyways, i initially made no actual changes, just threw the wheel in. and while the geo and BB feel was totally fine for what I intended for it. the stack reduction and reach increase just killed the whole vibe of making such changes to a bike. rideable, sure, but the cockpit felt more XC.

so here is an adjustment I had parts to do as of now. while I’d really love to not run the Highsides again, as they are likely even taller and reduce reach even further than the stock set up… they obviously improved the leverage and feel I lost dropping a smaller wheel in.

Sadly, more practical fixes of a lower angle spacer or just upforking are… expensive and or out of stock. Plus I’m already ruining the wheel and bar color, it sucks to throw on a black fork and really butcher this bike. anyway

Only thing I didn’t like was the bar width, which is something I was avoiding while legit running these bars on a previous bike. I really didn’t want to cut these bars, as the height allows you to run wider bars without being splayed forward… But it’s just not necessary.

I have heard that people will cut their bars, and then keep the pieces to be re-installed later. I am guessing you have to sacrifice a pair of grips to do so? As they will be basically stuck inside permanently at that point? Never tried it before. But it would be compelling as I hate to cut these bars, but it would improve this set up concept for my end goal here.

Otherwise I prefer this head tube angle and general wheel base. Love it. Feels spry for those non-technical rides, of which I have quite a few being in central Los Angeles.

I swear one of these days I’ll build a slopeduro project so I can stop butchering my trail bikes…

  2. I demulleted my Bronson v4 using a 6mm cane creek crown race. I wanted to go with the reverse components 10mm race but they weren’t in stock.

I didn’t ride it with a normal race so I can’t really say if there’s a big difference. I think it helps a bit with pedal strikes though. The cane creek race is $14 off their site. It only works with a 52mm lower headset bearing.
