I was browsing marketplace for a bike that I could use for commuting. I’m 6 foot 1 and I think a 29-inch wheel size should fit me. I came across this bike and thought it seemed like a good deal. I’m also considering getting into mountain biking in the future, as I enjoy snowboarding and dirt biking, and I believe mountain biking offers a good blend of the two. So, I was curious if this bike would be good for any mountain bike trail. I wanted to check here before making a purchase, as I’m still inexperienced. Thanks!

  1. Nope, this bike is pretty horrible. Steer clear.

Just to elaborate a bit more, 99% of Mongoose bikes nowadays are cheapo Walmart garbage, that’s built as inexpensively as possible.

These are often referred to as BSO’s, or “Bike-Shaped-Objects.”

Many BSO’s, like this, are dual suspension… but they use the cheapest possible suspension, often times with just basic springs and no damping. These cheap parts end up being just another area for your bike to break. So be wary of dual suspension bikes in this price range.
