Just ride into it knees bent weight slightly in back and pull up a little on the bars. You’ll be fine.

Don’t over think it, you have plenty of speed especially if you pull up. The gap is relatively small and low risk as well so if you case you likely absorb the hit with your legs.

  3. More fast = more better, just fuckin sender buds! Let’s goooo! For real though you can carry more speed thru that corner and it kinda looks like with aforementioned speed it should send you where you need to go with a little pop 🙂

Weight shift back, if you’re unsure how then you should learn to manual first. The slower you go the more weight shift you need. If you want maximum airtime then a bunnyhop motion will give you lots of punch.

Personally I would just hit smaller jumps until that is comfortable. Then move up and up until something like this feels right.

I also recommend hitting jumps after being in a rhythm of riding. Your body will tell you if you’re having a good or bad day. Try new stuff on good days and trust your instincts.

I’ve hit features and then felt too afraid to do it just 1 week later. No worries, I would just ride around and hit smaller stuff to get into the rhythm. If I felt good coming back, I’d hit it. Otherwise I just let it sit for another day.

  6. You should actually be pushing down with your arms and legs as you hit the ramp and then spring upwards slightly as you take off.

Follow someone off it who is comfortable hitting it. Seeing someone do it right in front of you makes you see how chill it actually is.

  8. Nothing anyone says on Reddit will make you commit to doing anything on the bike, it’s in your head and only **you** can overcome these mental challenges. Take a deep breath and compose yourself and then send it my bro.

  9. The one thing you can’t train or teach. How to overcome the fear.

The best thing you can try and do is visualize yourself jumping and landing perfectly. If all you can think about is crashing, then that’s what is probably going to happen.

Find something the same size with a straight run in. Follow another rider in. Also, we don’t see your jump technique so if that’s remotely in question don’t start on a gap jump like this even this small, find a tabletop!

You’ll get it eventually. But if you’re learning jumps, it’s best to have some face shielding.

Step 1) Wear a full face helmet

    Step 2) Grow a pair

    Step 3) ???

    Step 4) Profit

Send it, don’t be scared. If you’ve done smaller jumps you will be good. T

Try other stuff you’re comfortable on to kinda loosen up before hitting something new.

A really good way for the mental block; If you can visualise yourself doing then you can do it. If you can’t then try another time.

  15. Go steady on progression. Hit smaller jumps first and keep repeating it. Repetition makes magic.
Then move on to the bigger ones and do the same.
I got lucky enough to pull the trigger on mtb hopper coach ramp. Set it in the back yard and drilled the jumps, then step downs and was increasing “gaps”. Good luck

Better off starting with jumps on a straight run. Hitting a little kicker after a berm comes later

Two thoughts. 1. Put your bike at the end of the takeoff of that drop is the landing a little more or a little less than the length of your bicycle that will give you some reference for how fast you need to be going. It didn’t look like a big distance. I found sometimes with stuff it helped me get a different perspective. Off a curb you can Bunnyhop the length of your bicycle quite easily so with that little bit of drop you should clear that at trail speed. I imagine that’s the way it was designed.
    2. I didn’t see what the runout is on the landing on the left side(riders left side). You can come off the drop depending on what the runout is like at a diagonal and just hit the trail and not the down ramp or what looks like gap it’s a way to tell if you’re going fast enough without actuallylanding the gap if you will?

Looks like trail speed. Can’t wait for you to hit that, I understand your reticence and that fear is healthy. It will keep you alive longer. You are gonna laugh your butt off when you do hit that and laugh thinking that, “ I can’t believe I was worried about that!”
    You’re on a wonderful journey.

Work on your cornering, you need to carry more speed out of the berm for that feature.

  20. like the other guy said, don’t stop
if you don’t stop then you’ll keep going and if you keep going then you’ll hit it because you can’t stop

  21. thebrokemonkey on

Learning on tabletops is definitely the way to do it. You can start slow, and add speed until you hit the landing. Then o ce you’re comfi there, it’s easier to to gaps, because you already know what you’re able to do.
