Magistrates are being actively encouraged NOT to dish out custodial sentences. I doubt he will do 1hr of community service. Do you think the police have the time/resources to track him down if he doesn’t show up? The UK has become easy pickings for shop lifters, burglars and thieves. They have nothing to fear.
Tampering of a motor vehicle , yeah there is victim but there is no intent of harm so less severe . The fact is , that if the gov had places set up where potential criminals could go before they commit crimes and discuss why they need to commit a crime , then perhaps help them in some way with the food they need or whatever . Then this type of crime wouldn't happen because it isn't profiteering crime .
