I already posted the first one, but since I finished the other one, guess I’ll show both.
My favorite bike in college was my 95 Kona Lava Dome. Out of all the bikes that I owned in the 90s and the 2000s, there was something about that bike that just made me feel free. So, when I found one online for super cheap, I picked it up. It was in fairly bad shape, so I decided to tinker with it. Ended up doing a total repaint, then collecting bits and parts over the course of a few months. Still waiting for the purple anodized, riser, bar, as well as a brown saddle.
By chance, I found a 97 lava dome, similar condition, for $20. Of course, I bought it, and decided that I was going to make one for my partner. For this one, I decided to experiment, branch out a little bit on the paint, and I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, But considering the rudimentary tools I’m using, I am pretty stoked. These will be fun to ride around town, as soon as I get an 11 speed chain. How the hell do you lose an entire chain?
- my girlfriend/partner has silver hair, and when we visited Hawaii last year, she fell in love with the Silver Sword, which is only able to grow on areas around Haleakala on Maui. The Hawaiian name for a silver sword is Ahinahina, thus the name change.
