  1. I left it on for a couple weeks just in case I had to return it for a different size, and I did exactly that. Return it, so unless you absolutely know you’re keeping the bike I’d say leave it on for the time being. Also so you can make sure the bike doesn’t drop chains back there.

I leave it on for at least a few rides because it makes the weekend warriors (or redditors) really mad.

  3. Take it off once you confirm the shifting is setup right and the top limit screw won’t send the chain into the wheel.

It’s very rare for chain drops to happen on the cassette end of the drivetrain

  5. I left mine on. Just in case my chain ever falls off. It looks ugly, but it’s better than broken spokes or your chain getting caught.

No one answered the other part – you need to remove the cassette entirely to get to it. Need a chain whip, lock ring tool, and wrench.

If you don’t anticipate changing cassettes on your own often, can probably give a shop a couple dollars to do it for you. It’s quick and easy but those are tools you may never use again

What’s the best way to remove the disc? I just got a new bike and want to get rid of it. Do I need to remove the entire cassette?

  9. Yeah, take that stupid thing off. It’s called a dork disk. It doesn’t help and everybody’s gonna know you’re a newbie.
