    Normal brake levers on the tops of drop bars?

      You need to buy “cross” or “interrupter” levers instead. They are meant to be used in combination with drop bar brake levers but they can be used on their own as well.

      So, you are likely seeing one of two things when you see top mount brake levers on a drop bar. Either:

      (1) a set of cross levers — which are typically set up in-line with a drop bar brake, but don’t always need to be.

      (2) or a drop bar with a a narrow 22.2 diameter. These are relatively rare. Some old drop bars were made in that diameter (7/8″), and I think Nitto may still make a couple.

      That said, if what you want to know is whether there are any normal top mount brake levers for a modern drop bar diameter, the answer (I think) is no.

      One other issue as you search – you may have trouble getting a top mount brake lever to run around the curves of a drop bar.

      I have cross levers on one of my bikes, quite handy for an old fart like me.

      If you have drop bars why not just get drop bar levers? (I hated the in-line top cross levers and took them off my Crossrip.)
