Here are the photos I took this morning. I was incorrect. The brake set provided by Trek was Promax (not Tekto as my previous post stated) Discs, calipers, cables, pulls- the entire set. Listed spec is Shimano MT201 set (subject to change!).
My other kid has this set on her Specialized bought a month or so ago and they are complete temu trash. Fight me on this being an acceptable sub for a Shimano brake set. Plus the cable is so crappy and stiff (on both bikes) it scratched the crap out of the frame already.
Again, my beef isn’t with my local shop; it’s with Trek. Don’t sell it if you’re not going to deliver it. I’m all for the fun of upgrading parts and what not, I get, I’ve done it. But that doesn’t mean to say I don’t expect to receive at least equal quality and reliability/safety forI paid. If I wanted a damn Huffy, I wouldn’t have paid $1k.

Will they let you return it?
Take it back. Trek has a 30 day return policy.
Still a parts supply issue. Its weird they are still using Promax brakes when they also have a recall on Promax brakes.
I would return and tell them you want Shimano. You might get lucky and they just switch them out. If they won’t, return and wait.
Odd. Must be very old Covid stock. Hope you got a fat discount.
I picked up a brand new FX-3 around ~3 months ago. Got a 25% discount (Trek store) and it came with Shimano brakes.
At the least, call the shop and have them swap out the brakes for Shimano. They should honor that as they’ll order the parts from Trek directly.
I’ve had incredible success with Trek online support as well for various replacement parts on Trek / Electra bikes but not sure if they’ll send you a complete brake kit; unlikely.
My FX4 came with Tektro brakes. They are worse than the Promax.
Yeah that sucks. Trek is really sending their reputation down the toilet with these brake issues on the more expensive bikes. You should be able to get them switched out for a shimano set (and ask them to throw in a helmet or some other accessory).
