Yes. That caliper can be mounted without the adapter directly on the frame. The adapter is so it will work with a 160mm rotor.

Yes you can you’ll just have to remove the flat mount adapter. Next question is why do you want a 140? A 160 is better than a 140 in basically every way

I’m a bit curious as to why you want smaller rotors (weight loss?) Usually people want more braking power, not less…
