Hello I got a brompton T line and I saw this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w49c1j8PYQY

I would like to upgrade my bike with these brakes.

I was researching that I need also:

eeBrake extender: https://www.fantastic4toys.com/products/ti-parts-workshop-7075-eebrake-extender-g3-g4-for-brompton-bicycle-1?_pos=1&_sid=7443d9f93&_ss=r

eeBrake Reverse Wires Guiding https://www.fantastic4toys.com/products/ti-parts-workshop-eebrake-reverse-wires-guiding-for-brompton-bicycle?_pos=6&_sid=7443d9f93&_ss=r

What else should I need to install ?

As far as I am aware, I will not need the eeBrake Adapter since I will be using a Direct Mount with eeBrake Extender. Will this also allow me to keep mudguards? Am I correct? Do I need something else?

What about the braking power/performance? Will the extender modification curtail/diminish braking performance? Will I improve the braking with these new brakes?

I read on the web some comments that these brakes do improve braking power/performance, but I also read that the modifications needed to install those brakes on a Brompton diminish these improvements. I also read that a well calibrated/configured stock Brompton brake performs better for Brompton than an eeBrake.

What are your thoughts and opinions? Is it advisable to do this "upgrade"? I want to install these brakes and keep the using mudguards. It is mainly for braking power/performance. I live in a hilly city with steep streets in the Andean Mountains. The stock brake until now have served me weel. I made a great effort to get my T line, to the point of not getting a car. But a Brompton is worth every cent/penny.

Thanks for reading. Sorry if I made mistakes, English is not my first language.

  1. Deviantdefective on

The EE brakes are lovely however it’s a very very expensive upgrade for very little performance gain. The longer arms will decrease their performance slightly and you’ll limit your tyre choice as well as they’re on the narrower side. In all honesty they look great but unless you just want to show off they are not worth the significant investment from a performance perspective. If you want to go ahead you’ve listed all the parts you’ll need.

The extender allows to use stock mudguards. However, it noticeably degrades the breaking performance by leverage. It is a way worse than the stock brake arms. I can’t recommend it unless you are chasing a super lightweight Brompton for display only. Safety first.

  3. advisable? my answer would be no. u can upgrade your brake cable and casing to jagwire compression free road pro type and the pads to Swiss-Stop BXP or Cool Stop Salmon and toe them in properly for a lot less money. constantly wipe-clean the brake track on the rims right before you bomb down the hill and learn to cool off the pads by doing the right braking technique for down hill. these approaches might give you better result than single expensive gadget not meant for the bike.

have u also considered Paul Component brake caliper? it is available for Brompton, plug n play.
