I recently bought this bike on eBay, and was a bit curious about the general background of the model. Obviously I can read, but searching for Panasonic AL-4000 is useless, just one fitting result came up and that was another eBay listing. There also is a AL 7000/9000 but no 4000. Does anyone know anything specific?

This bike was made in around 1990-1992. The components are all Shimano 105 from the 1055 series to be precise. My guess is, that is might be a 1992 model as this year is missing in the brochure archives of Panasonic. 1990 nor 1991 do not list this model.
Somewhat rare (good) entry level model.
Looks like it needs a lot of work.
EDIT: my theory is, that this is exactly the same frame like the 1989 series AL-9000 and AL-7000 models. My reasoning is that Panasonic used one type of frame for their PR models and the higher the number the model had, the better it was equipped. So for example the top model PR-6000 had Dura-Ace, the lesser PR-5000 was built with Shimano 600/Ultegra however, the frame itself was the same just came in a different finish and model name. Their were even PR-2000 still shared the same frame, but didn’t come in fancy colours and high-end components.
Helpful if you can take some better and more thorough photos. The drivetrain, the seat post cluster, and helpful stickers that talk about the frame material..
Edit: typo
Better pictures might help, this is kind grainy. I know panasonic made really good steel bikes, but I’m not knowledgeable about their aluminum bikes
1 lousy NDS pic. Put in some effort if you want others to.
Looks like a decent bike, I agree with the post that says 105 Gruppo.
Pretty hard to tell from the awful picture, post more.
And sort out your front quick release before you hurt yourself, please.
Also there’s room for your lock to go through both the frame and rear wheel. Always lock your rear wheel and frame together to a solid object. Rear wheels are more expensive to replace.
I will take and add some better pictures tomorrow, but thankyou already for all the answers
You’ve got the AL 4000.

you can’t post a better pic because you don’t own it yet?
