Yes, its broken and it looks like the rest of the teeth are also worn. You should put on a new chainring and the issue of your gear skipping could be because of a worn cassette or chain( or both) i reccomend replacing all at once but it could be pretty expensive.

  2. Yes, it’s broken. Where does the chain fall off? Does it fall off on the cranks? It it fell of on the cassette, it would get stuck there, so if it falls off in the front, it’s pretty self explainatory.

  3. Tooth is broken, when you’re in your lowest gear the chain line is quite tight and speeds are slow so it is allowing the chain to become unshipped when the missing tooth engages meets the chain.

  4. Chainrings are $15 on Amazon and they will last for 2000+ miles, just replace it. There are 100 different sellers with 104 BCD; because it’s a single ring get the narrow wide. As far as oval vs. round: I have noticed a SMALL, small improvement ‘sometimes’ with oval, usually climbing modest grades. Everything else, climbing steep grades, flat pedaling, descending, no significant difference.

That chainring looks smoked, you might want to measure the chain that falls off, because I’m pretty confident it’s past 0.75mm

  6. Chain rings are a relatively inexpensive thing to replace. Get a new one and new chain. Check your cassette wear too.

Is your drivetrain the original one that came with your bike? Or did you convert to a 1x that changed your chainline ?

  7. Utterly chomped.

Congratulations, look forward to the beautiful feeling of a new chainset abd chain!

  8. Broken and very worn out. Might even be so worn out that its taken the chain with it or the chain is so worn its taken out the chainring either way you need to check the cassette for wear as well because there is a possibility that you may have to replace them all.

Sorry to ask: have you ridden a wide-narrow chainring with the chainlinks in the wrong position?

  10. Is there one just like it 180° across from it? If there is, it’s short by design. Meant to be used on a double crank.

it’s definately whats causing the chain to fall off. But the good news is you can get good 104 bcd chainrings for like $10.00 on amazon.
