  1. That is part of it and most likely wouldn’t allow the new cartridge to fit inside, corrrct.

I’d try using a headset cup removal tool and hammering it out. Just go slow and be careful of gouging up the threads in the bb shell. That’s a lot of crud cementing it in there where there shouldn’t be. You might want to try picking some of it out from around the sleeve and spraying some kind of penetrating oil in there too. Afterwards clean it out real good and chase those threads if you can.

I’d wait til the part arrives to see what is included.

To remove it, I’d apply penetrating oil, clean it, more oil, patience!, and go slow AND EVEN with screw type or hammer/shaft/exact right size pusher end.

Edit. If you can, find the manufacturer ‘s instructions

Hammer it out, ideally with a socket that’s just the right size, to avoid gouging the threads

Yep: that sleeve shown in photo 2 will block the install of a new bottom bracket. Should be able to punch it out (careful not to damage the threads in your aluminum frame!) after soaking with penetrating oil.

I’d suggest finding a socket wrench that fits inside the BB shell that you could use as a punch to transfer some hammer blows to that sleeve.

Worst case, I’ve also known of folks who have cut this sleeve with a hacksaw being very careful not to cut into the frame. Not recommended, but I know it’s been done.
