Started to hear an almost nonexistent sound out of front wheel so checked if anything was preventing from spinning. I cannot see anything visibly but started to notice that it just doesn’t spin much, it will stop very soon. This is probably because of the dynamo but cannot remember how much it used to spin. May be totally normal but wanted to check

Is this normal? High friction in front wheel

  1. Doesn’t look normal to me but I don’t have any experience of a dynamo hub… that might be normal resistance for the dynamo

I also have a Brompton with a hub dynamo, it spins much longer. Hopefully with a little lube and love everything will be better.

Hi. You have a dynamo hub. This dynamo creates electricity from the movement of the wheel.

The resistance is directly related to the load on the dynamo.

If the resistance is very high, it can suggest a short somewhere. Especially if you are not getting any light.

Try checking if turning on/off the light changes the resistance.

Also, you cut off the last crucial second of the wheel movement. How it stops suggests what is the cause:

    1) If it stops abruptly, it suggests some friction somewhere

    2) If it stops gradually, it suggests resistance due to dynamo load
