Spent two week riding solo from Niebüll to Skagen in Denmark. To prepare for the gravel bits of this route I put some 30mm tyres on my road bike which was totally enough. I mainly stayed in shelters but also carried a tent for emergency. Sometimes it was nice to get away from the mosquitos. I love the wild lonely beaches of Denmark and the wind was almost always on my back. Lots of beers and Spandauers (the pastry) were consumed and overall it was a pretty good adventure. My main enemies were eating enough calories, mosquitos and the loneliness. Even though you meet plenty of people/families at the shelters it was sometimes a bit boring to tackle the day and kilometers without company. But I did learn a lot about myself and sometimes it is necessary to spend some time with just yourself. It was my first longer trip and I will for sure do it again!

  2. I did a very similar route a few years back. Started in Niebüll and rode up to Hirtshals where I got a ferry to Norway.
Its a great route, really varied and very accessible and friendly.
I didn’t get any problems with mosquitos or midges at all but I was there earlier in the summer which may have made a difference?
