  1. At the backhalf of last year, I was going through some big life changes. Decided the best thing to do would be to cycle till I cleared my mind.

So I bought a ticket to Berlin, to stay with a mate, got a bike and a bunch of gear, then set off to reach Athens.

Overall, I cycled 2,550km and 30,900m elevation. The total trip was 45 days, but I only cycled for 30 of them. Took a few breaks in cities, and also spent 4 days in Split, Croatia to do a Spartan race.

For those interested in seeing my route – [here it is on Komoot](https://www.komoot.com/collection/3099598/-berlin-to-athens)

I know that ranking countries can be a little tedious – but im going to do it anways. This is totally personal preference, based on how much I enjoyed the cycling, the food, the drink, the natural beauty, and sometimes the people.

    1. Slovenia- this place blew me away. Stellar landscapes, stellar food and wine. Ljubljana is a wonderful little capital city, met a lot of cool people and ended up spending 4 nights there

    2. Albania – Even though I got food poisoning on my first day and spent a night at a local hospital, Albania is just great, especially if you like a little adventure. Some hectic roads, lots of mountains all around – and some of the best Balkan food.
    3. Montenegro – my time here was short, but it was an absolute barrage of mountainous beauty. Great seafood in kotor bay and some great Balkan classics inland.
    4. Austria – not my favourite for food, but the cycle routes and mountains are undeniable.
    5. Czechia – I don’t care what anyone says, Czech beer is the best in the world. Food was also great after Germany. Landscapes are nothing to write home about, but the architecture is obivously incredible.
    6. Greece – I wish this was higher. The food is outstanding, everybody knows that. This is a subjective ranking, but my black duffle was stolen 3 days before the end of my trip and all my camera gear with it. So I simply can’t rate it any higher.
    7. Germany – sorry fellas, as much as I love Berlin, there isn’t a whole lot for me to love of the other parts I saw. The eurovelo routes are fine, I think better if you’re traveling with family or generally like calmer rides. The food was the worst of the 7 countries (sorry again). I still like you guys, but someone has to go last.

And that’s my little summary! If anyone has any questions – please let me know!
