i took off my freehub to regrease and clean the internals. I had a little bit of trouble taking it off aswell as putting it on. Needed ALOT of force to put it back on. now there seems to be play in the freehub. Though it is not visible the seal is exposed because of the play.
How do i fix this play in the freehub? – I9 Hydra1

Shouldn’t have needed force to put on, and did you lose the rear washer
My guess is one of the 3-4 washers are missing. Currently have my shimano cassette apart and all the spacers in a baggie
Did you seat it all the way? Can you turn the cassette and feel it engaging the pawls? I have done this before where the cassette wasn’t seated completely.
put it in the bike and tighten down the through axle. Does it still do it?
How’s the i9 ? I’m thinking about getting a pair
Set the hub, rotor side down, on the ground. Push down on the drive side end cap firmly and it should pop in place. It’s just held in by friction, usually it’s sandwiched by the dropouts so it doesn’t come loose.
On all of my I9s that had cassette play, I had munched the bearings. Luckily it’s a pretty easy job. Pull em and take a look or have a shop do so. That said, bearing issues can lead to freehub issues pretty quickly as if the drive side goes you can have the drive ring eat into the freehub body…as one is aluminum and the other steel…well you get the idea.
Edit…that said, in this case you seem to have a shimano cassette rather than an SRAM setup like I do. Make sure that you are not missing a spacer.
I don’t know if this is the exact model, but this video may cover it or any common issues [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvbww_ttekI&ab_channel=IndustryNine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jvbww_ttekI&ab_channel=IndustryNine)
