Komt Oss toch nog eens positief naar voren.ðŸ¤
Het is ongetwijfeld een prachtig dorp, heb ik geen persoonlijke ervaring mee.
Ik zal er eens doorheen rijden, als ik wat backup kan regelen.😊
Such a nice upgrade. This takes this path from "only if I have to" to "yes cycling here seems like a perfectly fine option" 🎉
Any insights as to why they used concrete instead of asphalt?
Don't you think they missed the opportunity to plant trees between the road and the cycle path? In 20-30 years they could provide some nice shadow during a hot summer day!
As someone living in a small town where I can only reach 2 of the 10 nearest villages on a not-painful path I would be happy if we even had the old path.
Fun fact: the Netherlands is about 11 % more densely populated than New Jersey. A lot denser than the Greater Los Angeles area (which, to be fair, has mountains and a desert in it but even without them it holds true!).
i.e. This could be the standard in the US too – if they wanted.
In my country Scotland, progress is so slow and car drivers just use our cycle paths as carparks, nobody does anything about it , so annoying, just imagine if fifty cyclists just left there bikes piled up in the car road police would arrive car drivers would shout about it , yes sadly we have a long way to go , love your videos love the netherlands.
Herkende het fietspad in de thumbnail. Stuk verbeterd, het was zeker altijd erg krapjes. Goed verbeterd. Van de zomer weer eens befietsen.
Such a thing would be hard to realize in Germany, until someone dies, nothing happens
When you get to the farm @ 5:20 it can be seen quite clearly that the ground opposite the water drainage canal is much smaller then before. Obviously the people who own the farm had to give up some of the ground on their land to make room for the cycleway. The drainage canal was also moved, all for the widening of the cycle path. i'd imagine the owners of the farm had something to complain about it. Such changes can take a while to come into affect with bureaucracy and all. Some room was also taken from the farmland, including moving the drainage ditch.
At 7:17 you see the fence and construction going, originally the drainage ditch used to be there, with the widening, i'd imagine the trees had to be cut down to make room, and the owners of the land probably made a deal about expansion of their business with the municipality in exchange for the widening of the cyclepath. Such deals are very common in the Netherlands. We are a consensus (polderen) seeking nation afterall!
I love the before/after. Thanks for sharing 🙂 As usual
As someone that wants to improve the rural cycling infrastructure in the UK, this is exactly the kind of content I need to see how the world-leader in cycling infrastructure handles it.
Is there a reason for the cycle path to be concrete? I know concrete is used on highways with lots of expected truck traffic because it can take the high loads better than asphalt, but what's the benefit on a cycle path?
Bicycles, ebikes, electric cargo bicycles, robo taxis and escooters are great options for last mile, short distance travel.
Reduced transportation costs and fossil fuels free transportation.
Cities need to do more to encourage people to ride bicycles by providing SAFE, PROTECTED BIKE LANES and trails. Every adult and child should own a bicycle and ride it regularly. Bicycles are healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. Electric bicycles are bringing many older adults back to cycling. Ride to work, ride to school, ride for health or ride for fun. Children should be able to ride a bicycle to school without having to dodge cars and trucks. Separated and protected bike lanes are required. It will also make the roads safer for automobile drivers. Transportation planners and elected officials need to encourage people to walk, bike and take public transportation. Healthy exercise and fossil fuels free transportation. In the future cities will be redesigned for people not cars. Crazy big parking lots will be transformed with solar canopies generating free energy from the sun.
Retail bicycle outlets need to do more to encourage young people and older adults to ride bicycles.
Sponsoring bike trains to escort children on their rides to school would be a great start. Organizing volunteers, teachers and other to ride along would be a great start. Getting children out of minivans and onto bicycles would be healthy exercise, build independence and make society healthier.
Fun ride should also be organized. Getting a local bike club or school to sponsor an annual event to a local park or trail would encourage both adults and children to ride bicycles. Getting local elected officials to help with sponsored activities would help to educate them about the need for safe, protected bike lanes and trails in their community. Offering space and coffee for local riders to meet up would also improve store traffic.
Daily exercise is key to as healthy life. Ride a bicycle to school, work or for fun.

Make a bicycle your transportation option for short distance travel.
I love how the Dutch took what would have been an excellent cycling path in my country and makes it even better
How was the widening achieved. It looks like the gap to the motor vehicle road has increased. So did the widening happen mostly on the right side?
Why is there a bus stop in the middle of the field? ðŸ¤
Thanks for the update, the new cycle path looks comfortable and scenic.
