Hello everyone,

While looking for inspiration for my project ('90s steel road bike to gravel/city bike conversion) i came across an image of a trek 370 and noticed something unusual about the frame geometry. Specifically, the top tube of the frame has a noticeable slope. When I search for Trek 370 images i always see a perfectly horizontal top tube, like most of vintage road bikes.

Since I really like this bike's esthetics, I'm curious on how is possible to achieve this kind of result (apart of physically altering the frame of course). Is it due to the wheels? Are there any tricks or methods that can create the appearance of a sloped top tube? I'm not very experienced and this project is my way of learning bike mechanics and assembling one myself.

Thanks

  1. It’s because the frame is a smaller size. Smaller frame means you want less distance between seat post and crank which means you have to move the seat post down relative to other sizes because you have to maintain a minimum ground clearance which causes the top tube to slope down to connect with the lower seat post

I have a frame that’s similar. The builder referred to it as a cyclo cross geometry
