  1. I see people complain about service/delivery vehicles stopped on the side of the road in bike lanes alot…and I’m thinking, well what is the other option?

My city trialed a fully protected bike lane down one road and honestly I’m not a fan. When you come up to a bus stop the bike lane runs between the bus on the street and the people on the sidewalk at the stop. Technically bikes are required to stop and wait for the people to board the bus, but in practice everyone just ends up ridding through the grass strip behind the stop.

It’s much more convenient to just have the painted lane. When there is a bus or service vehicle stopped on the side of the road, I just signal left, change lanes to pass around them, then get back into my lane. Basically the same as I would do when driving.

Busses, service vehicles, delivery vehicles, etc are part of living in a city. You need to interact with them. It cost you more time to stop and take this photo than it would have for you to just pass around the truck.
