  1. I can tell you're a pro because you didn't puncture/gouge your hand with the blade screw driver, the pick tool or fancy pliers when installing the brake pads!!!

  2. The ā€œwoody Charlesonā€, the ā€œtrhuthing standā€, the alligator in the tire, the poop reference at 14:49. That’s why I watch this channel šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

  3. What brand of brake pad inserts were those? They seem like they're slightly oversized and I wanna make sure I never order them. I think we've been using Jagwire where I work, and sometimes they're a bit tricky, but nothing like the struggle you just showed.

  4. To be fair the idea of reducing waste and cost by having replaceable inserts instead of having to replace the whole thing is good. Is that why you wrestled with them instead of putting new ones on, or are those not replaceable with common ones you have or what?

  5. Thank you for confirming that I will never ever own brakes with inserts. Can always tell when you get extremely frustrated as the silence is deafening. Oh, hi and congratulations @MsBikefarmer

  6. Just grabbed some of that Powerwash and gave it a try. Cleaned up a bike no sweat that had a good layer of gravel dust on it. I t also cleaned up a set of late ā€˜80s XT flat pedals I was overhauling, made them nice and shiny. You need a sponsorship from Dawn.

  7. Have you ever put talc or ā€œbaby powderā€ in the tires to keep the tubes from glueing themselves to the tires? I’ve done that since the days we were all trying to be fancy and used latex tubes. It seemed to also cut down on pinch flats, maybe it let the tube squirm around a bit. Anyway, it was always a pain trying to fix a flat on the road if your tube had self vulcanites to the tire.

  8. Hey , how’s your back holding up , as an old. Farrier I feel for you , it’s debilitating for sure but you re looking slick as snot on a door knob , so I’m guessing you’re doing ok . Take good care

  9. Thinking maybe putting the insert pads in the freezer first could help them slide in easier as that should shrink the rubber ever so little and maybe being a bit stiffer would help too.

  10. I found a 1991(maybe) Specialized Sirrus Triple roadbike out in the trash in my neighborhood in preem condition i cant find much info on this bike and i want to take it bikepacking, anyone know a thing or two about it?

  11. Do you ever use Gatorskins on your bikes? I'm old and slow anyway, so I don't mind trading rolling resistance for puncture protection. It's been about 20 years now that I've been riding on 'Skins, and I've been happy overall.

  12. I have a Sirrus. But it's NOT one of these hybrid dad bikes. In the late 80's the Sirrus was the slightly lower price alternative to their Allez bicycle. It had the exact same frame as the Allez – a beautiful lugged steel frame made of really high quality tubes. It's a totally different ball game than the hybrid incarnations of the Sirrus. It's a really aggressive road bike that can barely accept even 25mm wide tires and is a little unforgiving. But, it's faaaaaaast and looks super cool. I did the cold-setting of the rear triangle on mine so it can take modern components and wheels.

  13. The thrill of being a local small town customer and then seeing your bike being lovingly saved, healed and delivered in real time, and having it as a watch whenever resource to share and then taking it out around the lake the past couple windy days…priceless
Thx from the East Side Bike Guy

  14. I use shimano xt arms on my sirrus the shimano pads drop in perfect most time. I have avid 7 arms on a dif bike and what a pain in the @$$ haha. I have a 2012 sirrus frame has over 35k miles on it. I am using xt brakes. Shimano deore triple crankset 170mm and external deore BB these are bulletproof bottom brackets long as you close the vent hole on bottom of bb shell. Using deore shifters. Deore deraluers. Cannot go wrong with the deore line.. solid. I use road wheels easton Circuits they can take a pounding using sapin cx ray spokes 28 hole rear 24 hole front. The circuit's are 10x better then mavic kysruims imo. I like your video i use tri flow as well on my cables and also
on some road hubs also on other bikes i have. Imo the specialize sirrus is the best all around bike you can buy mine can house 38-40c tires my 2012 has an alloy fork as well not Steele.

  15. The bicycle world would be so much better off if more people on YT bike channels used phrases like "this bicycle is too light". That alone is worth $5. Keep up the good work!

  16. I was out on my 1975 Schwinn Varsity yesterday when I encountered another cyclist at a stop light. He was in his 50s or so, age wise. He was on a light, modern road bike in full gear. We took off and talked for a minute, both exclaiming about the hill we just climbed into a gusty 30mph headwind. I told him my bike was a 50 year old Schwinn weighing almost 40 lbs.,

    He says ā€œis that a Paramount?ā€

    I chuckled and said ā€œno, it’s a Varsity!ā€

    He replied ā€œare you a bikefarmer fan?ā€

    Me: ā€œyes I am actually!ā€

And then he absolutely left me in the dust! I love my old, slow tank of a ten speed all the same.

Thought you’d enjoy hearing that šŸ˜‰
