So my old single speed bike got stolen. It was a Raleigh Carlton Mixte. It was solid, never had any issues and pretty affordable ($400). I only ride a few days a week, all city, all flat, about 4-5 miles commuting here and there. My current bike shop sources these two brands for single speeds and I trust the bike mechanic with my life so I want to choose between these. I guess I have 2 questions:

Would the Fairdale Express be find for regular commuting/riding?
Should I shell out for the better Big Block for safety or any other reason my poor knowledge doesn't know?

I have a state core line and masi uno bot not that expensive and ride the hell out em. All that to say the $500 fairdale would be just fine but i would compare weight. If the all city is lighter, it might be worth it. Especially for commuting if ur luggin it around.

  2. The Fairdale is fine and durable. The reason to buy the All city is not for safety but because it is lighter, more agile and has frame details. All city is also going out of business, you can look at it as either hard to find gem or as dead stock that should be on sale.
