This is a handlebar shifter? Push on the cable and see where it comes out?
Usually you push them out so the “end knob thing” comes out first. Are you sure it is not meant to come out on the opposite side of the shifter?
Comes out the other side. Need to push the cable in and try to fish it out on the right side of the shifter.
You’ve gotta have the shifter in its highest gear. Keep tension on the cable as you shift it.
