Hey! Straight to the problem. I have a Grizl CF SL 8 trail, which Im setting out in a few weeks to do the EDT. For the occasion I thought I should finally get a rack for the back, and some back panniers. Problem is that the trail has no screw holes for racks. So to solve this I bought a tailfin universal thru axle and an ortlieb quick rack. The quick rack was supposed to handle the size of my wheelsโ€ฆ. But suprise, its too small. The rest of the system worked fine together ๐Ÿ™‚

The ortlieb quick rack was perfect because it could wrap to the seat post which doesnโ€™t have screw holes, also compatible to use with the thru axle. The back of the bike does not have options for racks either.

Any recommendations? Help ๐Ÿ˜…

  1. Well… I hacked something together some time ago, by getting the thru axle and the dropout releases from tailfin and attaching then to a standard racktime rack (I think it was a lite it Tour?). For this to work, I had to drill two holes into the dropouts of the rack, but I think they should be plenty strong. Then I got the a spare quick rack seattube clamp and stuck it on the rack. Watch out that you get a rack with flat dropouts so that you can easily drill the holes and attach the release clamps easily… Overall, this saved about 200โ‚ฌ compared to the full tailfin system…
