My chain drops off the biggest cog and it takes serval 'clicks' for it to move into any gear. New cassette and new chain.
Am I right in thinking the hanger is bent? Would this also fit with it happening all of a sudden?
Let me know if you need more info/ photos. I'm a total newb and appreciate your time and help.

That is very obviously bent. And yes, this would cause issues to show up suddenly. Your local bike shop should have a tool they can use to straighten it.
might be but if the chain falls off between the frame and the smallest cog it is more likely the limiter screws need adjusting as ell it sounds like your cable is slack if you need a couple of clicks to move the deraileur up into another gear.
I would say so. But a Pic from directly behind would be better.
