Apparently someone’s Garmin said we were missing a turn. Rider 2 bikes up slammed on the brakes, some accordion compression and the rider in front of me took out my front wheel @ >32mph (according to my Garmin). Hit the deck for a grand broken bone total of: clavicle, scapula, glenoid, 6 ribs, pelvis and acetabulum + a bonus hemo/pneumothorax. Spent a week in the hospital and am now 4 weeks out regaining use of my arm and being able to walk. Already counting down the days before I ca get on the trainer…

  1. That is gonna hurt so much for so long. Anything with the collar bone or region around is really painful. Seeing third photo I am assuming you got a morphine shot for your trouble. I hope you get feel the wind soon.

Having had similar injuries from a cycling accident I know how painful those first days in the hospital are. Heal up, and do all the physical therapy and what feels so significant now will feel insignificant in months.

Oh, and always protect your front wheel!

I know this was personally very traumatic for you but this is a bicycle subreddit not a post your broken bone subreddit. There are now 2 xrays of broken bones on r/bicycling front page.

Feel free to tell me how these xrays are good content. I think this is akin to having a dog photo subreddit where there are a bunch of people posting about their dogs dying.

Dumb question, are what look like bits of bike chain in X ray actually surgical bolts/screws?

Sooo, how do you feel about the guy who slammed the brakes like that in a group ride?
