  1. Seriously stumped on two very different but equally great bikes. I’m upgrading from a very entry level steel bike. I ride 50/50 gravel/road but I’m far more interested in gravel, the road just happens.

*the particular Aspero I’m looking at has grx400

From my feature wish list- the Cervelo seems to be a little bit more aggressive geo, and the full carbon frame is a huge plus value wise. The 2x drivetrain is more familiar to me, but the generations and models of groupset can get pretty dizzying. I understand this to be tiagra with a clutch and hydraulic disc brakes? I also love Cervelo as a brand, especially as a Canadian. I understand this is a first generation version and is very race oriented. As someone who was considering buying a dedicated race bike as well, killing two birds is attractive, even if it’s a lot of bike to jump into.

The trek has 1by, which I’m not as much a fan of as I like to ride a little road, but electronic shifting is something I’ve been really interested in. The dropper is also a really cool extra. I’ve never been drawn to Trek as a brand but I can’t deny their value. It’s a little less aggressive, which so many people in the internet echo chamber always say is what you actually want. I’m sure it’s faster than my current bike. The mounts are somewhat unnecessary with my current bike lifestyle but nice to have in case. I’m minutely interested in bikepacking and such, but I don’t have anyone to do it with, so most of my rides are solo ripping around local trails and roads. Lastly the Trek can be ordered from my LBS , which gives me some support and a yearly free tune. I don’t care much for that but the Cervelo would be shipped from another city and I’d be on my own, which I’ve never dealt with.

The trek may have a slight edge on features, but the Cervelo Frameset may be one with more room to grow, as I’m trying to transition into more aggressive riding.

Wwyd? I appreciate expertise and experience from anyone who has owned road bikes for longer than me. Not sure what to expect buying my first potential “forever bike”
