Great pleasure to fit thumbies onto this bullhorn bar

Bought this second-hand bikesdirect Motobecane Cafe Sprint bike and one of its past owners added a Syntace TT handle bar and forced the bike's original trigger shifters back on it. They also used the SRAM TT 500 brake lever that unfortunately could never be tightened properly — the cable actually goes through the Allen key hole that tightens the brake!!! (See the last image for reference.)

I still liked the bike, though. The bike itself is quite lightweight as a hybrid bike (has a carbon fork and weighs 19 lbs based on the spec sheet). It also has the well-liked Deore M591 rear derailleur on it. I decided to upgrade it into something great for my uphill commute.

It was my first time really trying out bullhorn bars and I couldn't say I liked it. But I managed to source a Profile Design One carbon brake lever for cheap and swapped in these Microshift thumb shifters. The shifter mounts required some bending but I managed to make it work. I think it turned out pretty clean!

I saw a post the other day about fitting thumbies onto drop bars. Here I'm showing another proof. You may need to slightly enlarge the 22.3 clamp to fit the 23.8 handlebar and get a slightly longer screw with a washer to better tighten the clamps.

The rest of the upgrades are some SKS fenders for rainy days, Shimano R353 V-brakes for fender clearance, a 11-32t cassette for even bigger range, GravelKing SS+ tires that are a b*tch to install, and some Chinese carbon parts to celebrate my heritage.
