A couple of folks suggested I drop this in here, so here goes…
I had been looking into some large handlebar bags and an idea came to me. Could I modify a tackle bag for this purpose?
I found a relatively large Plano bag (approx. 13 L) that fits nicely between my drops and reinforced the bag with a phenolic plate and some modified utility hangers. To attach to the bike, I replaced the hefty stack of spacers under my stem with a second stem, and fashioned a mounting plate to replace the cap. I installed rivnuts in the phenolic bag support that match the mounting plate and now have a quickly detachable solution. After a quick, loaded ride around the block, being sure to hit some bumps, I’m happy to say it rides very well and doesn’t seem to impact steering much at all. Since taking these pictures, I have removed the fabric dividers inside the bag and this thing is cavernous! Real life test run coming soon…
