I’m looking to upgrade to some larger rotors on my DH bike that came with Shimano XT brakes and 203mm ice tech rotors. What the bike came with is great, just wanting to see how much power I can get out of these brakes with rotors and pads (already running Shimano metallics).

Does anybody on here have thoughts on Galfer’s Wave rotors (specifically the larger 223mm ones)? I’ve been seen mixed reviews on other forums.

Seems like some people have had issues with them being shipped already warped. I’m also curious if people have had pad clearance issues on Shimano brakes (which are designed for 1.8mm thick rotors) with the thicker 2mm Galfers, although I figure 0.2mm is pretty negligible. I’ve also seen people having issues running the larger 223mm rotors on Fox 40s using Galfers +20mm adapter (see here: https://www.mtbr.com/threads/203mm-to-223mm-rotor-problems.1206551/)?

I’ve also considering sticking with Shimano and trying out their 220mm RT66 rotors (unfortunately they don’t make their ice tech rotors in larger diameters than 203mm). If anybody has experience with those as well, I’d love the insight. And if anybody has experience with the Galfers (ideally with Shimano XTs) let me know your thoughts!

I’ve got one on my enduro bike. 223mm Just got it to try it out. I’ve also got Shimano brakes and they fit no problem. You might need to push the pads apart some to have enough clearance.

I ordered the rotor from ebay and it arrived perfectly straight, no warping. It’s all good but honestly is probably overkill for me as I’m not a heavy guy by any means. I may go back to the 203 rotor this season.

I’ve been running Galfer brakes and pads for a few seasons now and have always been happy with their products.

  2. I do have 2x galfer wave 246 and currently 2x galfer shark 223

Had already Shimano and SRAM and magura rotors but they all come more or less warped

Just get a tool to straighten them and learn it, you will need that skill anyways sooner or later 😅
