  2. I think the chainstay itself isn’t symmetric either. I would say his is not a defect, but intended design.

  3. It’s purposefully designed to offset the asymmetric forces acting on the frame, more noticeable trend with disc brake bikes. With some bikes it’s to give extra clearance for chain line .

  4. Right chainstay is further inboard to make space for the chainring. So, it needs deeper shaping to clear the tire. This is intentional.

  5. Asymmetrical design is what you pay for. I think BMC was the first if not one of the first to pioneer this – as they always flexed their CAD design and in-house materials labs – and those bikes took it to the extreme.
