    This has been on my short list for a ATB build for over a year. I need to get off my ass and go test ride one but based on my experience with other aluminum Specs I’ve ridden I fear it may lack lateral stiffness. Otherwise it checks a lot of boxes.

    Of course it’s overkill for the paved sections. But those are easy, so it doesn’t matter. You can still cruise along at 16mph, making good progress.

    I think what does matter is that you and the bike can handle the difficult sections. That you can ride without fear of hitting a rock that puts a dent in your rim. And without rattling your wrists to pieces.
