Hi All,
Looking to upgrade my ride, registered for the High Cascades 100 this July and would like to get something that will help me keep up to the 55 year olds that keep passing me while I turn 46….
Looking for a middle of the road (under $9k CAD) XC race machine that would be good for these longer type of XC races, what would the MTB group mind think are some options to look at?
Currently riding a 5 year old Obed Seclud, have done some longer races on it (TransRockies ) but I feel something a bit lighter and zoom racy like might be a better fit.

Personally? Epic 8. Have a friend who just got a deal on the Expert – comes with GX Transmission and upgradeable to your heart’s content. (Edit – I have an Oiz, love it, but Specialized is a lot easier to get and get serviced in the US, and I think the Epic is probably the best XC bike on the market…)
100 mile XC race sounds savage. I’d do it on a hardtail with lightweight XC tyres, not sure exactly what bike as I’ve never been in the market for an XC bike at that price. I’m a fan of Santa Cruz bikes so probably a Highball, or go with what I know and a Giant XTC Advanced SL29.
I wish you luck in the race though, looks like quite an effort.
Mach 4 sl or an Exie.
I picked up a Revel Ranger last year and absolutely LOVE it. It’s not the most race gdeo ever, but I like a bike to be fun as well as quick, and it is! I did the Maah Daah Hey 100 on it and didn’t regret the decision one bit.
Realistically, there are a lot of amazing bikes out there that would do what you want though. I just like small brands who still put some heart into what they do.
Honestly, ride what works for you best. Endurance is about riding your own race. I haven’t done one for some time but I used to love steel 29er hardtails for 24 hour racing. For solo-24 stuff rigid singlespeed was awesome…nothing to break or go wrong. Not saying I was fast…but I liked the simplicity!
Probably a Scott spark rc, maybe trek supercaliber
Exie
