My feeling: all the pedal dynamics stuff is gimmicky at best. Fun to look at but I don’t know of any training programs that really make use of it to improve your speed, power, or endurance.

  2. This is pointless to use without a dual sided setup.

You need a ton of setup and insight to use it. The best use case is on a fit bike working with a fitter. What I’ve seen is they can sometimes use this data to diagnose something going on with your pedal stroke.

I had this happen where they could tell something was wrong with my left leg at the top of the pedal stroke. The setup they had was better at visualizing the data than what you see here.

The problem was even with good visualization there aren’t any set and dry ways to know what action can lead to an improvement. I’ve actually seen this at two different studios and neither really had a solid recommendation for me.

The ones at the fit studios can often see negative forces as well where your leg is doing something weird that robs power on the backstroke or over the top.

If not coupled with proper fitting (as in done by a bike fitter in a controlled space, maybe video analysed etc.) I would only use these dynamics as entertainment data. Not really to judge if you ride “correctly”

What *is* helpful is the raw wattage, that you can work with. But unless you go dual sided to see imbalances, these diagrams are cool to look at. But that is about it. And no need to stress if an angle is good or not.

All you need to know about riding with power is pedal harder = number get bigger. Don’t look at the other stuff.
