Options for a bike that can hold up to my dumb riding?

Until recently I owned both a crappy haro hardtail for my college commuting and a trek fuel ex for all the weekend trail shredding. Ultimately I got spoiled by my fuel and couldn’t put up with the tourney drivetrain and terrible brakes anymore so I sold the Haro. Now I honestly have a ton of fun commuting everywhere on the fuel but it’s heavy and expensive so I’m super anxious when I take it out. I’d love to get a more road focused bike to commute on but I’m afraid it won’t hold up to the staircase descents or curb hops that make the commutes fun. Any bike suggestions?
