Hi! I’m looking for the best way to mullet my Giant Revolt 2×11 GRX RX810 to a 1×11 with ideally 50t capacity.
I’ve previously done the cheapest possible mullet of my previous gravel bike (1×11 GRX RX812) by swapping the stock 812 RD cage with an MTB cage (M8000 XT SGS). Like this [$25 BUDGET MULLET!! // Shimano GRX 812 + XT Cage](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ynpFsE8snww&ab_channel=TheBikeSauce)
This worked pretty ok (some big bumps when switching between the lowest and higest gears, worked quite nice for mid-range gears which I use the most). After a few hundred kms, the RD cage has how now bend outwards (see picture) and while it can still reach all gears, it has not made switching any smoother. But I’m thinking this problem might be cause by not switching to a longer chain (see picture)?
Anyway, back to my new bike (2×11 GRX RX810). I’m not so appealed by the MTB cage solution again. So I’m considering to go with
I attach two screen shots of the 12speed and MTB mullet solutions. Is the difference in the angle of the RD cage when in the lowest gear simply due to having alonger or shorter chain?
OR sell everything and build a new APEX 12speed with Eagle RD? :p

I had the same idea. And then boom all of a sudden I had bought a whole new bike. Just like that.
Also, just to mention, any possibility your derailleur hanger is bent, and that could be the issue instead of the cage being bent?

Best GRX Mullet upgrade? SRAM AXS Eagle

Think it would be the road link, I used it for mullet a few years ago and the RD ended up in my spokes there’s a lot of flex, was a long cage 105 though.
I’m currently running GRX 812 RD with an XD 9-42 (zitto) cassette which is a decent range, you could always go to 36 up front.
Other option is 10-46 (sunrace) XD cassette. I tried that first but shifting nowhere near as nice, so sized down the chainring and went to 9-42 and not missed it.
Personally I’d rather have reliability and lose a bit of top end speed.

I bought a derailleur hanger extender, 10t jockey wheel, and 11-46t cassette off AliExpress all for less than the cost of a replacement shifter for the front mech.
Very easy setup and works like a dream.

Best GRX mullet option is Sram.

Honestly I was much happier selling my bike and just buying what I wanted, which was a bike with SRAM XPLR.

Just add grx rear mech a xt long cage and enjoy the ride.

11-46 cassettes work with a RX812 RD, doesn’t say it should but it does lol — no issues with shifting

1. the 12-speed GRX RX822 mullet: [It Works!! // The $127 Shimano GRX Mullet Upgrade](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dEEe0hIMpf0&ab_channel=TheBikeSauce) [total 95 EUR]
1. GRX RX812 (11 speed) + Wolf Tooth Goat Link 11 (or should it be Road Link?) [total ca. 85 EUR]
1. GRX RX812 + Garbaruk cage + Garbaruk pulley wheels [total 220 EUR – seems pricy??]

I think I’d look at either the s-ride [520](https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/590839-s-ride-rear-derailleur-overlength-cage-11sp-black-rd-m520c-gravel-5794?category=766#attr=) or [680](https://www.somafabshop.com/shop/590969-s-ride-rear-derailleur-11-12-sp-shimano-rd-gr680-9213?category=766#attr=) derailleur (seems like the 680 is the updated version of the 520), or else do an e13 9-46 cassette, which would be within the stock 812 derailleur’s capacity (would need an XD/XDR freehub though).
